Reviews about Classic Kitchens of Virginia
- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆August 19, 2020, by Shannon ColeI am not the type to leave reviews, in fact I do not think I have ever written one, however the experience I had with this company really put me over the edge. I reached out to this company in regards to my kitchen cabinets (and only my cabinets). The ones I currently have are extremely dark and very glossy however if I am able to refinish them over replacing them that is what I want to do. I called Classic Kitchens of VA and after speaking with the rep, we decided an in home visit to look over the project is what was best in deciding whether or not I was able to refinish them for a reasonable price. I scheduled an appoint with Tom to come out on a Monday just to give me his honest opinion about the cabinets and maybe a ball park estimate as to what it would cost me for both replacing and refinishing. Once Tom walked into my kitchen he immediately began to point out all the upgrades my kitchen needs including the cabinets, floors, countertops, appliances, lighting etc. Everything he suggested was very intriguing (obviously who wouldn't want complete kitchen renovation) however I was very clear that I only wanted to do as much as my budget would allow and the most important thing to me at this time were the cabinets. Tom then tells me that he has done this for so long that he is able to eyeball projects within dollars of what the final cost would be and by looking at my kitchen he would estimate about $20k - hearing this number was music to my ears as this was about exactly what I wanted to spend on new cabinets and maybe counter tops if possible. He then went further to tell me that I needed to go into this project like buying a car and come up with a budget and then plan my project around that budget. Once I came up with that number he told me to email him and also send pictures of the type of materials I wanted to use. When Tom left I was SUPER excited and immediately began researching new kitchens. I emailed Tom about a week later with my budget (basically $20K) and let him know that I wanted to schedule a time to visit his show room and talk about what I could get for that price and show him the ideas I had for my kitchen. The next day is where this whole situation went very south. Tom emailed me back and basically told me that he couldn't work with me because he just bid another project on a similar sized kitchen for a floor to ceiling renovation and it was double my budget. He then told me the only way I was going to make my renovation happen is if I were to buy my own materials and become my own general contractor and if I had any questions he would try his best to answer them but unfortunately he would not be able to do the project for me. This response was extremely upsetting for multiple reasons.1- During the very first phone call they knew my budget of $20,000. If they knew that price was below what they usually accept, why even come out to my house. I know they weren't able to know this upfront but I am a new mom, my time is precious, I don't need someone wasting an hour of it giving me false information and promises 2. After knowing they didn't want a project that small and still coming out to my house why get my hopes up by pointing out several upgrades they could do and continuing to make me believe this could be done within my budget. Just tell me upfront that a full renovation would be double my budget and lets focus on what I initially called you about - my cabinets. 3. Lastly, in the beginning I wanted CABINETS ONLY, Tom knew this. Is he telling me that cannot do a cabinet renovation for $20,000?? I feel like that is a lot of money for the relatively small kitchen I have. Why would he tell me he cannot do a full renovation for my budget when I was honest upfront that I understood that I would only be able to afford the cabinets. Tom just kept filling my head with unrealistic promises from the moment he walked through my door knowing he couldn't deliver on those promises but maybe hoping I would agree to almost double my budget? I honestly don't know why he did it but I wouldn't waste your time
